Stories about the pack drivers of the Splügen Pass
«Sopra Schiena di Cavallo»
For centuries, long-distance trade across the Alps was carried out on narrow mountain paths with pack animals. On the Splügen Pass, transport was organised and carried out by the locals, shaping the village community and everyday farming life.
Erwin Dirnberger’s stories accompanied by historical exhibits provide fascinating insights into that distant time and bring the day-to-day experience of the pack drivers back to life.
