The guest books of Hotel Bodenhaus

The Hotel Bodenhaus guest books are the cultural and historical treasure of the house. They document an important epoch of emerging tourism in the Alps. Beginning in 1828, travellers from Europe and overseas entered their names in the visitors’ books. They tell us who the guests were, where they were from and where they were travelling – often with personal recommendations or even hidden warnings. Among the thousands of guests are crowned heads and nobility, as well as philosophers, musicians, painters, scientists and poets. Probably the oldest guest books in the canton, they offer “a gripping journey through European cultural history” (Kurt Wanner).
